You know that feeling when someone compliments your child? That’s kind of how I feel about RT Book Reviews nominating Sybilla’s story for Best Medieval Historical Romance of 2013. Yes, there were other characters in the story besides Sybilla, but in my heart, this is her story. Her trilogy, really. She was the most complex, difficult, and fascinating character I had written, and I felt like I got to know her so intimately throughout the course of the three novels. Some readers really, really hated her in the first two books, and I feel I can confess now that that was my intention all along. I got so many emails that basically said, “She’s such a bitch! I don’t see how you can ever redeem her.” And all I could do was smile at the screen and type wait and see…

I hope those readers were satisfied. I’m so proud of you, Sybilla.
